How do you use your cell phone?

I have no problem turning off my phone. Just because it's possible for people to call anywhere, any time, doesn't mean they should try.

I use mine mostly for receiving/sending texts and the odd call, as well as an alarm clock. I don't travel that much and my life isn't that hectic that I need electronic assistance. I understand some people just can't live without their Blueberrys or PDAs but I'm a free man who can forget about work once I clock out. Besides, I'm usually within arm's reach of some sort of computer anyway; far more computing power and features, plus a display I don't have to squint at.

I leave the usage of smartphones to my colleagues, who seem to bemoan the fact that they're constantly locked in a one-upmanship battle against each other and obsolescence. Some of them change models nearly annually. I find it ridiculous.

I don't switch off my phone but I have no problem leaving it nearly perpetually in silent mode and ignoring calls from numbers I don't recognize - it vibrates, so I can discretely glance at the caller ID and decide whether to bother answering or not. Like you guys, I don't let it run my life. It's a communications device/clock combo; end of story.

I use mine mostly for calls. Since my watch broke I also use it for the time and date. Also makes a nice alarm clock.

I normally hold it in my hand, dial the number (select contact) I require and press the send/connect button. From then on it's just a case of using the speaker and microphone until the call is ended either from their end or pressing the end/disconnect button

I actually text more than talk now. I use texting for quick simple back and forth communication.
Also, I'd rather send a text than leave a voicemail.
Oh, and I use Google Voice for my voicemail so if someone leaves a voicemail, GV will email and text me the transcript which is pretty cool.

Time and Date! Jeez, I forgot about that! Yes, whenever I'm not wearing a watch (which is most of the time) my cell phone becomes my watch. And as an alarm clock, yeah! When I have to get up really early, yep, it's my best alarm clock too!

PS Oh yeah, I almost forgot my FAVORITE feature --- my cell phone has a 'tip calculator' which I LOVE. Not being much of a mathematician, it is so great to be able to punch in a couple of numbers and instantly know how much the tip will be, or even, if you're splitting the cost with others, how much your share will be. . .
