Spam levels drop following Pricewert shutdown

Quote:
It's been almost a week since the Federal Trade Commission dropped the hammer on Pricewert LLC, a rogue ISP accused of all sorts of wrongdoings, and indeed it seems the takedown has had an immediate impact on the level of spam sent worldwide. According to multiple sources around the web, spam levels have declined as much as fifteen percent since last week, with notorious botnets Cutwail and Pushdo apparently being among those affected by this move.

Always a good thing when these firms get closed down, I read about them being shutdown yesterday on the BBC News site here.

Most people have no idea who's and what it takes behind the scenes to help take these rogue sites down. I applaude each and every one of my diligent colleagues.

This was no "site" but Hosting provider(s), their servers and command-and-control servers used by botnets.

Is it really that hard to hit these ISP or their hardware? And having closed them down why don't criminal prosecutions follow as a matter of course.

I know that the European principals of the bad side of these businesses are (supposedly) still not known but surely there is a case against the owners of the ISP/hardware especially as I gather that there were a number of takedown requests before this shut down was forced.

Pricewert has not yet been convicted of any unlawful activity, but a first hearing is scheduled for June 15.
