Yellow Triangle with Black Exclamation Point

I'm sorry for posting this here because the problem in question in on a Windows XP System, Fully Updated, If you can't help me here maybe someone can point me to an appropriate (similar to this) forum

This is my wifes computer and in the Task Bar every so often a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point will pop up. If I click, right click, or just hover over it, it will disappear. Nothing special seems to trigger it. I showed my wife and she says she HAS seen it before as long as 8 months ago. I do the maintenance on the computer but do not really use it although I think I have seen the icon once before in the past but it quickly went away

Security on this computer includes Norton Internet Security 20011, Malwarebytes, Supeantispyware, and spywareblaster. I also have Norton Utilities but do not really use it for maintenance although I know it is always running. I do weekly or more scans and don't seem to really come up with anything major. My wife does not surf the dark corners of the web just mostly checks email (does not open attachments) reads the paper and shops and well known sites.

I do not see any errors in the event viewer or and conflicts in the device manager. I have researched a little online and explanations seem to be all over the board. It does not seem to effect the PC in anyway so if is not harmful I am not really worried or concerned at tracking down EXACTLY what it is again as long as it's not harmful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should also mention that I WAS having Internet issues tonight as well, but a reboot on my modem and router seemed to fix this. I found a picture online of what the icon looks like.

Looks like the standard windows icon for when some issue needs your attention. Like if your wireless wasn't connected, it'd show up superimposed over your wireless icon in the system tray. Could be anything, iirc. Try mashing on the PrtSc button to get us a screenshot the next time you see it.

Well I think I fixed the problem. Looks like I was having an IP address conflict but Win XP was not really telling me it would just come up with the yellow triangle black exclamation icon and that's it. Like I said I was have Internet connectivity issues so I power cycled my modem and router. Apparently when the internet connection came back up both the Win XP PC and my Wii gaming console tried to grab the same IP address and my router did not resolve the conflict. On the Win XP PC I did the right click repair on the wireless connection and it was assigned a new IP address and all seems well.

This is the second time in the past month I had to reboot my modem and router I am wondering if one of them is dying. Networking is my weak point so I am not that great at trouble shooting. My modem and router are going on six yrs old so I may have to replace one or both soon. I have the latest firmware on the router but it is not always good at assigning IP addresses. I also have a few ROKU boxes and if one of them are assigned a IP address that another device was previously assigned I sometimes actually have to unplug the ROKU, connect the other device, then re-connect the ROKU because the other device does not seem to get reassigned a new IP address. As you can probably tell I am using DHCP
