That's certainly the most common greeting in Finnish when meeting people you know and are familiar with. I use "Moi" in these situations; it's like "Terve" but even more informal.
Polite, formal is "hyvää huomenta" (good morning), "hyvää päivää" or "hyvää iltapäivää (good day or good afternoon), and "hyvää iltaa" (good evening).
In my second domestic language Swedish the informal ones I use among friends and family are "Hej" and "Tjena" (Swedish tj is pronounced as English ch). Formal ones are "god morgon" (good morning), "god dag" or "god eftermiddag" (good day or good afternoon), and "god afton" or "god kväll" (good evening).
