and you can't always use a DVI to VGA adapter. Motherboards with VGA and DVI on them usually only have a DVI-D port which means it doesn't carry an analog signal so a DVI-VGA adapter won't plug in. In the article posted above, the DVI port is a DVI-D, you can tell because there are no pins above and below the flat spade connector on the right.
