Just wait a little longer until the Ice cream Sandwich phones become mainstream.

Samsung has announced their update schedule for ICS. They will update only a couple of devices like Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab Mini.

My Galaxy S I9000 has the same specs as Nexus S but Samsung wont update it to ICS. On the other hand, custom ROMs made by XDA devs are running smoothly on Galaxy S. Their facebook pages and forums are bombarded with negative comments which may force them to change their mind. After all, they have sold 20 millions Galaxy S I9000 across the world (the reason behind their success).

Not using CM as they don't even have it out yet in public really for this phone. Maybe when they do put it out I'll try it.

Have the CDMA/LTE 4G one. ATM I'm using zygot3 1.5 from here. Was using rootzboat. There are so many devs on this phone, so multiple ones to choose from.

That's one thing I like about Nexus you guys will get the first update no custom UI and lot of developers. In our community there is only one or 2 developers team so limited resources but we also get help from Sony in terms of drivers, porting etc. for Custom ROMs.
That's the main reason I waited it out for this phone.

    Plus it's an awesome phone.
I was gonna get the Galaxy Nexus, but kinda got put off after reading this even as amazing of a phone as it is:

Is the Galaxy Nexus Still a “Nexus?” | xda-developers

I'm torn between getting a HTC with Beats phone for my music, or just biting the dust and still going for a Nexus.

    In response to the article..

If you just stay completely stock/locked to Verizon, then yeah it would be kind of disappointing.

If you Root - Once you see how many devs own the phone and put out ROMS so quick that they're more up-to-date with the latest Android version than what is officially pushed out to the Google yakju Galaxy Nexus phones. It really becomes a trivial concern at that point.

For instance, I'm running on the latest latest 4.0.3, and I can choose a ROM that is pretty much bone AOSP stock, or highly customized. Or I could even build/compile AOSP 4.0.3 myself. Actually did, but not using it. That's having the latest even before 4.0.3 been officially pushed out to yakju Galaxy Nexus phones. You could do that with pretty much any rooted Android phone, though.

Only say, if you stayed at stock Verizon you might have to wait around a little longer than straight pushed from Google, would it be more of a concern. Even still Verizon stock will get it before other non Galaxy Nexus phones would. IMO it's not even a big deal.

Stock Verizon only has like 2 of their apps on it. Hardly call it bloated.

Guess it's all in how you look at it, really.

Yea I suppose. I don't even know if it's the same situation with Nexus/carriers in the UK.

The Nexus interests me obviously for the pureness and AOSP side to it. HTC with Beats for the music aspect. I could root the HTC still and keep the ROM, and as much as I like Sense, it's still pretty bloated in itself (a Sense ROM for my Desire at the moment is around 250MB and my AOSP ROM is around 55-60MB).

Well I've been playing around and got an ICS 4.0.3 ROM running smoothly on my Desire. This is on a phone that has no HWA. Only features that don't work currently are USB tethering and video recording, but I can imagine they'll be added soon.

I like the new app drawer as seen in the last screenshot. Chrome Beta works fine on the phone as well. I used the V6 Supercharger Script to get it running a bit more smoothly (V6 Supercharger). Some ROMs incorporate something similar, like the Gingerbread ROM is used had similar minfree RAM values in it, but it also locks the homescreen in memory (like what CM7 does) and gives the homescreen a higher priority (which stops redraws on the launcher).

It's a nice ROM, especially on a phone that sure as hell won't be receiving an ICS update. Breathes a bit more life in to it.
