My hometown in the Black Forest

This is a typical small town (10.000 inhabitants) in the Black Forest. Unfortunately the quality is so, so because I had to convert my good quality 1.5GB .avi file to a much smaller .flv file in order to upload it to Vimeo within my weekly allowance of 500MB.

I suggest to watch it in the native Vimeo window - full screen is a challenge. I did not embed it because that makes it worse.

Very well done. Looks like a place I would like to visit. Unfortunately I still have lots of my country I have not seen and a trip to Europe is not in the cards unless I hit the Lottery.

That's a lovely video WHS, very well put together. Your home town is beautiful. I have taken holidays in the Black Forest area and it is a lovely part of the world. That was a couple of decades ago but your film reminded me of what a good time I had then. Thanks for posting it

Thanks everyone for the compliments - I am glad you enjoyed it. Too bad I could not upload the .avi version where the colours are a lot more vibrant. But $60/year for the Vimeo Pro is a bit steep for the purposes I use it normally.

YouTube lets you upload up to 2GBs, but they do not allow more than 15 minute clips - and this is 20 minutes. Can't win.

That is funny. "Bad" means "Spa" in German.

I had to look that up, so I learned something new, too.

Yeah, there are many of those little Spa towns in the Black Forest (and all over Germany). The most famous one is Baden-Baden. The German Emperor, the Russian Tzar and other famous people used to go there - and still do. (watch the movie and take the city tour).

Today it is more for the masses. The German social security and the health insurances pay for people to go there to recover from ailments - usually for 3 to 6 weeks. Each town specializes on a couple of organs (heart, kidney, bones, etc.) and has treatments accordingly. Most also have healthy water wells and people drink this water on a regular basis during their stay. In Bad Liebenzell we have 3 wells and the water is also sold in bottles all over the area.
