    Building a computer

I've built over 1,000 computer from scratch and right now I'm 63 years old and I have only built about 3 computers in the last 5 years. So I go down and get all the stuff to build a computer, put it together and it won't boot. It will not POST. So I called the tecks up at Fry's Electronics and say how about 2 minutes of your time. I guess I have a bad part or I just didn't do something which today computers are easy to put together. So my nerves are shot, a little nagging from the old lady and I'm ready for the nut ward. Now how in the hell is an old man like me going to trouble shoot this thing. I was so piss off I took the $800 worth of computer parts and said give me my money back. So now they say you pick out anything you want to build a computer and we will put it together for you for $60. I thought WOW I just went through $600 for bad nerves. Now once I get the computer I can take it from there. This is what happens when you get old, with no friends, family, and your by yourself and your dog can't help you. What a life but I still love my computers.

$60 is pretty good for them to assemble and test the machine.

I've built a good amount of machines through the years and I know the frustration of a system not booting.
The system I upgraded for my friend used an Intel Motherboard and would not boot with the Antec PSU that was already in the case.
It would turn on, spin the fans, then shut off.
I spent about an hour moving parts around and then taking it back apart to check to see if the mobo mounting studs were shorting something.
Read a couple of reviews on Newegg about the mobo and there were a few noting that certain Antec PSU would not work with that mobo.
Ran to Best Buy and grabbed a Corsair PSU and installed it and it booted up just fine.

Oh, I did test the antec again with the old parts and the old parts booted up fine so I didn't think it could have been the PSU until I read those newegg reviews.

You are lucky, you are still young. Look at me - I am 10 years older and am still on this box for at least 8 hours per day. I do not build computers from scratch because I am a software guy and my eyes are too bad to see the little parts. But software I have done since 50 years.

Lots of luck with your new build.

Your lucky to have a job. I hurt my back 7 years ago and have been on disability and you have no idea not having a job does to a man. If you use your software skills at home, so much the better.

LOL, I did not have a job since 18 years when I retired. I have never felt better. I have no idea today how I ever found the time to work 70 hours per week back then. Now I can do what I like.

I am right between you guys. I am 70 and love to build my own computers. I like the research on new features and about every 3 years I spring for a new rig. I was a telephone man for 40 years and retired 5 years ago. Worked on a lot of specialized computers (Telephone Switching Systems) and also PBX, Data Systems and ATT/NCR PC's and servers. I am always doing minor upgrades as new products hit the market. Keeps the mind sharp.
