    VCD/DVD vs DVD

A movie that I want to order comes in both of these versions...what is the difference?

Thanks, I don't know that I understood everything in that article, but what I did understand makes it seem that there is no good reason to go with VCD/DVD except them being lower in cost, but that is offset by them having only half of the horizontal resolution of DVDs. I will get the DVD.

I can tell you right off what the difference is working on vcd as well as dvd projects at times generally dvds from extended video captures. A vcd is the short term for video cd where you can burn a shorter length video from your camcorder for example on a cd-r rather then wasting a dvd-r blank on only 10-60min. of footage.

The quality is improved when packing more data for the same length of video on the larger disk which would then be the dvd which also provides the best of that format. For movies any vcd would be "cheap" in visual quality due to lower format. For your home entertainment the expression goes "you get what you pay for!" and certainly want any movie you buy in dvd to start with if not Blu-ray or DVR form.
