What will happen when... its June 1, 2010 and many people who willingly became self proclaimed "beta testers" aren't ready. Will MS take so much grief from careless people as to never release a beta/RC to the general public again?
Certainly hope not. I think the release to the general public was an excellent decision. Users best not complain about what they have to go thru at the close of RC. If they ruin the chance for the next beta version to be released to the GP, its really going to be a shame to those who fully understood the implications of "testing" Windows 7 Beta/RC.
---
The definition of "beta" as it relates to the PC/Software Industry, from Wiki: PC/Software Beta
---
I can see it now...
...how quickly people will forget the joy and enthusiasm they had when they installed Windows 7 Beta/RC. Tickled pink when they found out they could install Windows 7 and try it for free, and now on March 1st, the same people are ranting and screaming bloody murder for the trouble of having to back up there data & settings, delete the OS, then install & setup there replacement.

Do you think there will be a lot of people complaining about what they need to do at the close of the RC Program? | My System Specs |

Quote: Do you think there will be a lot of people complaining about what they need to do at the close of the RC Program? Without a doubt. Like you said, people need to know that this is NOT a final version (beta/RC). The thing is that MS made an awesome product and it feels like it's a final version, and some people don't understand that they're still testing an OS. I hope it's not that bad of a fallout and MS lets us test windows 8...asap | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Vostro 1000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU AMD Sempron 3600+ Graphics Card ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor Screen Resolution 1200 x 800 Mouse Logitech V320 Cordless Optical Mouse Hard Drives WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB (WD5000BEVT) |

. . .it really is sad, but if I was a betting person my money would be that those doing the loudest complaining will be those who down loaded the RC (and later) from the bit torrent sites. And, it will be those same individuals who will download the final from a torrent site with bad keys and virus then complain in earnest how bad Microsoft is for putting out such a bad O/S. When complaining they will use "M$" to punctuate they ignorants. Then I was wrong once. . .anyway I think I was wrong, then may be not. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion a4302f OS Win 7 Pro x64, VM Win XP, Win7 Pro Sandbox, Kubuntu 11 CPU AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 @ 3.0 Gbz Memory 12GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB, 2x2GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4350 HD Graphics/Audio with 512MB Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 1. There will be a lot of complaints. However, hopefully M$ made it explicitly clear (as in a baby could understand. there are people that dense) that the RC (and beta) were TEST builds, NOT the final release, and it is NOT a free OS. When people accepted the Download, they accepted that the build would expire, and should be ready to lose anything and everything under the install. If they did not expect that, they should not have used it.

~Lordbob What M$ is not giving me Windows 7 for free?? Those EVIL, Money hoarding *******S!!
LOL, sorry had to say it because I know its going to be said over a thousands times in blogs everywhere by people that think the world should give them everything. MS has sent out enough press releases to say this is a test OS and not a final product. I have been seeing on some torrent sites "Full cracked" versions of Windows 7 I cant wait for those to start showing up in my repair shop and those people saying what a bad product it is because they downloaded it and now their machine is now part of some zombie nation cause they wanted it for free.
But back on track their are always people out there that will complaine because the rest of the world wont drop to their feet and worship them. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU AMD Phenom II 1090 3.2 six core Motherboard MSI 890FXA-GD65 Memory 16 gig DDR3 Graphics Card MSI R6950 2gig Sound Card on board Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23inch led Screen Resolution 1900x1080 widescreen PSU CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W Case CoolMaster HAF 922 Cooling Box AMD Heatsink/Fan Hard Drives Seagate 1tb SATA6

While it was a great decision on many levels for MS, I suspect it was only to repair their image after Vista-related fiascos (capable/compatible/etc, hardware, drivers, etc) and NOT so much about users helping to find bugs or suggest features. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1520 (Laptop)/ Home (Desktop) OS Windows 7 x64 / Same CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 / Intel Core i7 930 Motherboard Intel 945 / Asus P6X58D-E Memory 4GB / 6GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS / ASUS 1GB Sound Card Whatever Dell gave me :-( / Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" LCD / Crappy CRT Mouse Microsoft Presenter (Bluetooth) PSU N/A / OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Modular Case N/A / Antec 900 Cooling Air Hard Drives Seagate 500GB SATA; 7200 RPM / Seagate 1TB SATA; 7200 RPM |
