Worth selling the old GPU?

Since I have a new Graphics card arriving Wed or Thurs. this week, Im not sure what Im going to do with my old one.


So, Ive been thinking and Im entertaining the idea of just selling it.

This is the card:

Since its only DX 10.1, what do you guys think it would be worth?

I do still have the box and all accesorries if that even matters, although the card itself is obviously used.


Although, I may be just as well to keep it as a backup card.
Or in case I decide to take advantage of the Step-Up program of my new card, so I have something while its away.


Im not sure what I want to do with it yet. It may be of more benefit to just hang onto Vs what its worth now to sell.


So thats why I thought Id see what everyone here thought. Im a bit undecided.
Anyway, whats everyone think it would be worth, or even worth selling?

Just throw it on eBay. Someone will be interested in it. Not sure how much, just have a look at what other's are selling theirs for to get an idea.

I've sold various old cards like 7600s and people have always been interested in them.

If the $ doesn't make a difference to you. It's always nice to have a 2nd GPU to use to test should you think you have a GPU problem. A Guy

i'm in a very similar position with a very similar asus 4890 - i don't have many local techy friends who want it.

i may keep hold of it, and when the lucky day comes that i can upgrade my rig, i could stick the old 4890 back into my current rig, and then sell it as a whole machine.

although i could do with a few £££ right now...

Yea, it a bit tougher decision that it appears.

An extra $100 or so would be nice (Which seem to be the rates ATM on Ebay)



After thinking about it awhile
If I decide to use my Step-Up program (Which I likely will) Ill be out a GPU for a week or 2 while its a way.
Hopefully, the 600series Nvidia cards come out in the next 3 months (I doubt it though) If not I'll just use the step-up to go to a 580.

So probably better keep it for now, at least untill thats expired.

Then just hand it down to my little nephew.
Hes really starting to get into PC gaming, and just using a 4650 ATM, so it would be a nice upgrade for him. Although he will need a bigger PSU.

I'd be highly surprised if the 600 series will be available by then either.

The 580 is still a powerful card.

Kind of excited now. UPS will be delivering my new card tommorow


I got the GTX 570 SC edition, with the HF bracket and backplate.
Lots of benching to do once I get all the accesories put on it and installed.

The card may actually be prettier than the rest of my machine though


After shopping around a bit, I ended up going through TigerDirect. They have a 1 time $10 off deal this month, for any purchase/s that total over $100.
So I ended up being able to grab this card for $349. (Reg. Edition was $339)
Seemed to be a pretty decent deal. Hopfully its performance will reflect the price.


On a side note:
I've been reading the SC edition is basically the same card as the Reference Edition.
The difference being, its bios are programed for its OC with a modified Fan profile.
Also, the SC cards are supposedly higher binned parts.

Sadly, most of what Im seeing seems to be pure speculation. Anyone know if its true (in terms of higher binned) and where I could find a definitive answer?

Not that it matters alot at this point but I thought it identical aside from being programmed with higher clocks.

just a little fyi, when you step up, you are only able to get the base card, no SC or SSC cards.
They may have changed the policy (this is eVGA, right) since I last used it to step up my 260 to a 285 last year.

Yes, eVGA.

I do recall reading that about the Step-Up a few days ago.
It would be nice to get a SC version, but I suppose it still isn't that bad of a deal.
