Girl Falls Into Manhole While Texting, Parents Sue
It’s hard to decide who are the biggest morons in this story: parents or daughter. 15 year-old Alexa Longueira was walking along Victory Boulevard in Staten Island when she fell into an open manhole.
Why didn’t she see it? You’re ahead of me here. She was too intent on tapping out a text message to notice the gaping gap in the sidewalk and just dropped straight on in. Idiotic, yes, but now Alexa’s parents are trying to blame someone else for their daughter’s stupidity while making a little money into the bargain. They’re suing the city.

If I was the judge, they would be out on their asses with all the court fines SO FAST.
People that try to do that should be slapped, given ALL the court fines, and sent back to school.

We regret that this happened and wish the young woman a speedy recovery," DEP spokeswoman Mercedes Padilla said in a statement. She added that crews were flushing a high-pressure sewer line at the time.
The girl was checked out at Staten Island University Hospital and released.
Sewer line workers are supposed to cut off pedestrian access to work sites or at least mark them with warning signs.
At least she was ok and got checked out of hospital. Looks like everyone is at blame IMO.

Seems that they care more that it was gross than that it was improperly marked. The city is certainly at fault for that, but at the same time, they should be sueing the city for Incompetence (or neglect? I lost the word), not because it was gross.

Yes,
I believe the city workers were at fault also, but I have a suspicion that the family will be sueing for some ridiculous amount of money.

Local man kills 300 texting while landing plane!
A local man has been arrested over the allogation that he crashed a 747 superbus during it's landing proceedure while texting his wife. Reports now indicate that he's suing the airline as there were no visible signs that he was nearing the landing strip.
