"Some Like It Hot"
"It Takes A Thief"
"Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?"
"It Happened One Night"
Many years ago, when mammoths darkened the plains, I took an elective in movie appreciation. The prof said that to count as a "classic" a movie must be older than you. He said that watching the classics served a purpose: it encouraged you to see the people of that past as fully formed human beings, as complex and sophisticated as anyone today. It helped the young (and the not so young) to "get over themselves", to get past the smug condescension some have towards the "old days" and the old ways.
I liked that. He made a lot of sense... for a college professor. Heh.
