Jailbroken Devices

Recently I bought a fourth generation iPod Touch and was thinking about jailbreaking it what are the pros and/or cons about jail breaking. I am thinking of using Greenposi0n to jailbreak it. Would this be the best course of action?

I don't have a whole lot of time to go into the pros, but there are certainly no cons. ios 4.3.3 is the most current and I suggest you to use sn0wbreeze for that one. You should look into tinyumbrella too as it is a really good utility to use.

You should also re-download ios 4.3.3 from iTunes, find and then save it for sn0wbreeze. sn0wbreeze will modify the ios which you will have to restore using iTunes. You will have to be in DFU mode first. Make sure that iTunes is still contacting apple servers so that you can fully restore your ipod. This setting is controlled by tinymbrella.

Use tinyumbrella to save you SHSH files for your ipod.

One more thing. the latest version of tinyumbrella which is 5.0 something is missing the exe extension from the program, so if it doesn't appear to be an actual program just add the .exe to the program.

I have just jailbroken my ipod touch. Since it was on 4.1 and the download was taking too long I decided to use Greenposi0n.

I've Jailbroken and it's great. I too used Greenpois0n on v4.1 and it worked fine. Anyway, I don't download cracked apps, I only use Cydia for useful utilities like SBSettings and themes.

I jailbroke mine, and put some epic Cydia apps on it. Here are my favorites:

Safari Upload Enabler - Upload files/pics from mobile Safari.
Enhanced Folders - Embed folders inside folders. Enough said.
Mobile Terminal - Difficult to get to work on iOS 4, but well worth it.
PHP - Epic server language makes a good scripting language on your iPod too.
DreamBoard - Trick your friends into thinking you have an "iDroid" (Android made by Apple).

I always have to jailbreak my phone so I can use it with any other provider sim card (unlock). This may be the wrong way but in India, if you buy an iPhone from any carrier, it cannot be unlocked at all. Spoke to Apple about this buy even their hands are tied on this matter.

Also, jailbreaking opens a whole new world of possibilities.

I don't really know what "jailbreaking" even means, but I read somewhere that if you've done this you can tell your ipod touch/ipad to ignore certain App Updates.

I dunno why Apple refuses to give end-users the ability to say "my App works just fine, I DON'T want to update it!" but it keeps pestering you and you run a risk of accidentally "upgrading" when you don't want to. Can you guys confirm that Jailbreaking means I can have this?
