How would you use a wii remote on your computer?

In class today my teacher did something with his projector to where he could use some kind of pen as a mouse. Like the projection on the wall was a "touch screen". He had a wii remote hanging under the projector. He said something about infrared signals or something and the wii remote can track where you touch (i guess?) Anyone know how he did this?

Wii remotes just use bluetooth. A lecturer I had a University used a Wii remote to control his Mac and Powerpoint presentations.
