Yes, I think I'll be going with the Crucial M4. It actually looks like I have enough to get the 256GB. I'll see if I need anything else, or I can put some more cash into the SSD.
Perhaps. On my current build my RAM usage never goes above 40%. I might stick with 8GB then. If I really need it, I can but another couple of sticks.
Okay, G.Skill it is then. But what's this about less overclocking ability?

Hi,
8gb of ram is plenty and if you want to you can always add more later.
As for the motherboard personally I'd go for Gigabyte G1-Sniper2 Motherboard [G1-SNIPER2] - $425.00 : PC Case Gear this before I went for the Asus.
As for Ram I'm running G Skill ram atm..I should have gotten Ripjaws but I didnt lol...I'd go for Corsair over GSkill only if the latencies were tighter otherwise both are premium ram sticks.
Re overclocking ram: basically you will see no real world difference. For benchmarking it is, as always a matter of degrees and I have found Corsair will overclock better than Gskill. Ocz ram was the best for overclocking. It didn't void warranties it could be overvolted to buggery etc but as I said Ocz got out of ram and nowadays concentrate on SSD's.
If you buy GSkill get the Ripjaws and if Corsair get the Dominator. And both come with a aircooling fan clip on doover. If you going to play with latencies overclocking and overvolting them best to keep them cool.
It overclocks better.
Yes you can. And my next build which will be the X79 will have Corsair Ram.
If I were you I'd be waiting on the Bulldozer from AMD..they had the best in the world overclockers in a meeting, gave them Ln2 and liquid helium to play with and 200 CPU's (just in case they destroyed 199 of them rofl). AMD now have the world record for the fastest CPU. It reached 8ghz. They did have to disable some cores to get that high but it beat Intel hands down. I'll see if I can find the article and link it.
cheers
Yup me too lol...the guys from OCAU regularly have LN2 sessions but never anywhere close to my vicinity ....so much overclocking knowledge and I can't get near them...makes me a sad puppy.
Just learned my 890 mobo will accept the new Bulldozer. So now I can just wait for the fun to begin and let's all hope it takes it to Intel something fierce, we'll all benefit !
