Good news is that TV's are getting lighter and lighter. I prefer wood with glass shelves.

I'd go glass because I have a glass stand, but honestly, it's what you think goes with the surrounding room, if you have a glass coffee table or a glass desk, then a glass stand would go.
Unless if you have more wood furniture....
I like the combination of both. Usually wood for the main structure of the furniture and glass as an accent or in the case of a shelf the shelfs be glass. If it's a table or something I prefer that the glass not be a position it could easily break.
Well mine is a huge wooden chest but I still voted for glass!
On the Wall for me.Out of the reach of kiddies sticky fingers.

Well I haven't got one of the new slim TV's yet, I'm still using a 28" CRT one and that's on a wooden stand, well I think it's wood under the silver/grey colour and it has one shelf the same colour which holds the DVD player and the bottom holds the VCR and Sky+ box. It's a good solid stand, has to be to hold those heavy telly's
I vote wood. My current one is mostly plastic , but soon my 20" CRT will be gone, and whatever replaces it will be on a different stand.
I prefer glass myself, though harder to keep clean. Especially when my old GSD comes in, wet, and shakes herself all over the room
