    Irene

Irene has formed and heading toward Florida and could reach Hurricane force before reaching Hispaniola Monday night.

Its not looking good for Irene. It has shifted to the right and most models predict a further shift to the right and the more it moves over open water the stronger it will get. It could skim Florida and slam into the East coast.

    Irene will become Major Hurricane

Irene is predicted to miss the mountains of Hispaniola and with open water will grow to a Category 3 storm. Hope our friends on the East coast stay safe and check National Hurricane Center for updates.

    Update 11PM 8/23

Here is the lasted. A little dry air from the south has slowed the strengthening of Irene but it is still predicted to reach Cat 3 in a few days. It does not look like it will turn to sea or go inland, but skim along the coast from North Carolina to New York which is not very good.

    Update 5pm 8-25

Irene has made a turn to the NW and should turn North in 12 hrs and then a slow turn to the East. Not enough of a turn to miss the East coast. It is a Cat 3 but some wind shear in 24hrs will weaken it just a little bit and will hit North Carolina at a strong Cat 2 or minimal Cat 3 and still be a Cat 1 when it goes through New Jersey.
