I won't need a heat gun after all. I did what I should have done in the first place, and pulled an edge up with a thumbnail, and then the rest peeled off easily. As you said, it left a bit of an outline, but I'm headed back downstairs to try cleaning it with some isopropyl. The next job to tackle is to fix the door locks. The key that I was given only works in the driver's door and ignition, despite the claim by the previous owner that one key fit all. It seems unlikely that the passenger door and liftgate locks would have failed prior to the ignition and driver door, as they have the highest use.
