    Microsoft vs. Apple ads

Someone passed this along to me so I just had to pass it along again.

    Microsoft vs. Apple ads

    Date: July 27, 2009

"It seems like the battle between Microsoft and Apple commercials may be kicking into high gear.
    From the Huffington Post:
The battle between Microsoft and Apple seems to never end.

PC World reports that at a Microsoft conference on Wednesday, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner revealed to the audience that an Apple lawyer actually called him to complain about the ubiquitous 'Laptop Hunter' ad campaign.

    Here's PC World:
"And you know why I know they're working? Because two weeks ago we got a call from the Apple legal department saying, hey -- this is a true story -- saying, "Hey, you need to stop running those ads, we lowered our prices."
They took like $100 off or something. It was the greatest single phone call in the history that I've ever taken in business. (Applause.)"
    What made Apple so angry?
PC World points out that Apple's price cuts were significant enough to make many of the ad's price information inaccurate.
Here are the ads from both Microsoft and Apple. Take a look at both ads and vote for the more effective ad:
    Which ads are more effective?

Now, please take the poll above and tell us which ad you think is more effective."

Which ad is more effective? They're both lame!

Apple was angry because in the original ad, the price of $1999 was front and center and the women commented about it costing 2x as much as the PC. Unfortunately, Apple dropped that particular model in June and replaced with a model that was $1699. So, MS caved and pulled the ad. Now the two women are commenting that "you sure do pay for that brand name" referring to the Apple.

30mb? Are you sure on that? I thought it was more like..... $800 for 20mb!

But then it depended on who made the drive for what system as well.

OT, I know, but want to show what I posted some time ago here:

For those interested the mentioned IBM PC Model 5150 had a 4.77 MHz Intel 8088 processor, 256 kB memory, no HD and it used 5¼-inch diskettes which in the beginning could store 180 kB (later 1.2 MB). 16 colors, 320 * 200 display. Using a bit Internet I found out that the price then in Finland, 24 000 Finnish Marks, would be about €8 000 (£6 900 or $11 300) in todays money. I remember my quite a good monthly salary was then about 2 500 Finnish marks before taxes, so to get my first PC I had to use almost 10 months gross income.
