Windows 7: Anyone familiar with Windows XP Embedded?

Anyone familiar with Windows XP Embedded?

Hi all,

Pulled this out of the trash at work, repaired it and was told to keep it as it had already been written off.

I have the password for the admin account, however, when I try to make any system changes I get a message that I have insufficient privileges. Does anyone know of a "master" admin or some such?

Alternatively, is there a way to extract the drivers (video and lan) since they are specific to this device? If I could do that, then I would install XP Pro.

It has a 1 GHz Celeron processor, unsure about RAM, perhaps 512 MB, 2 GB CF card as fixed storage. I can attach thumb drives or external hdd through the USB ports.

Thanks for the reply, I saved the PDF some time ago and read through it, doesn't really go into the Windows aspect of the device. I'm thinking that it's probably priviledged information...Beckhoff (and the original equipment supplier) set the unit up and the end user has only limited control.

Maybe I'll explore the possibilities of installing some flavor of Linux or perhaps try saving the drivers for insertion into a clean XP Pro install.

I did get the XP Embedded development kit, but it's somewhat beyond my abilities. All I could do was follow online instructions (geez, like a script-kiddie) and the results were less than good.

My intention is to use it as an FTP server and as a client for a Netgear ReadyNAS. The FTP software worked ok except that I couldn't mount my shared media folder from a different computer (insufficient privileges). The Netgear client wouldn't run at all.

As far as I am aware, when you're in the login screen, you can press control+ALT+delete and switch to administrator by typing in "Administrator" as the username and it shouldn't be password protected, hope this works
