Unlocked iPhone 3G from AT&T on Verizon

    Hey guys and girls..
I recently acquired an older iPhone from my friend (the iPhone 3G from AT&T). Now, a couple of years ago I had 2 friends with the same iPhone from AT&T and they had it jailbroken, unlocked, and running off of the Verizon network. They were only able to get the phone service from Verizon (as in talk and text only with no internet service).

My question is how the heck did they do it?! I have mine jailbroken and unlocked, I have an activated Verizon Wireless SIM card, I know the whole CDMA vs. GSM deal but I also know for a fact that it has worked before with minimal usage (aka no data). Does anyone here know how to go about this at all? I am so close I can taste it and its driving me crazyy.

    Thanks everyone!

    Matt

Yea I used ultra snow to unlock it, is there a certain one that I should use? A one word answer really isn't much help..

    -- EDIT

I just recieved the VZW sim card and installed it into the iPhone. I have ultrasn0w installed but don't know what to do with it.. anyone know what to do??

Ultrasn0w is really what you needed to know, there's a list of compatible basebands in cydia when you install it, check your baseband is compatible with the basebands that are displayed, to check your baseband, go to settings>general>about and scoll to the bottom and look under modem firmware.

Actually all you have to do is have your friend contact AT&T to let them know the phone is no longer in his ownership and they will unlock it, I did this for the AT&T phone my wife gave up and it took less than 5 minutes to have it done.

well i used cydia to download ultrasn0w and unlocked it.. it's been unlocked this entire time and as for this baseband thing i'm a litle confused (i've never messed with iPhones like this before).

So pretty much it's already jailbroken, its already unlocked, and I have the VZW sim card in the phone with the phone searching for service and unable to load the network list.

I found an article that shows how to use the verizon sim card with the iphone but its for older iphones which involves installing yellowsn0w instead of ultra snow

    -- EDIT

Okay so I just through the sim card into my Droid 2 Global and it gives me the option of CDMA or GSM.. so obviously I should be able to connect to the verizon network with the sim card in the iphone but how is the question

There is a lot of information on internet, explaining how to jailbreak / unlock these iPhones. Softwares like ultrasn0w, Redsn0w, etc.

For the sake of legality of unlocking these phones, I am not sure about discussing these procedures at this forum.

But you will find people who can do this for a small fee in almost every city's telecom shops.

It's safe to discuss this particular topic in this forum as it's completely legal to jailbreak and unlock iPhones or any device nowadays, if it was a forum issue then this thread would have been closed and/or deleted as soon as it was open :)

Jailbreaking and Unlocking is Now Officially Legal in United States

I got an iPhone 3GS from my son in US who has used it on an AT&T contract for two years. Just got it jailbreaked and unlocked with redsn0w yesterday. I started using it with Saudi Telecom service provider's SIM card and am pleased with it...

My two sons are now shifting to Sprint and getting Samsung Galaxy SIIs.
