I sometimes wonder which is the greatest waste of of money...films or typical government spending. I have nothing against entertainment, but I see no reason why entertainment can't be more original and educational. Educational may be the wrong word, perhaps enlightening would be a better way to phrase it. As things are, it seems that we are inundated with continuous audio/visual experiences that tend to numb us. I suppose that may be because it is too difficult or expensive to write original scripts or produce them, but I'm left with the feeling that it is an intentional form of brainwashing. I'm not suggesting that everyone in Hollywood are conspirators, but I'm certain that some are.
Not to put too crass a point on it, but I don't understand the propagation of the myth that guys can have their way with professional "working women" and then not pay them. I don't know how many TV shows and films this bit has been in. I remember seeing an interview with a woman who was a union representative in Nevada where the trade is legal. She stated in no uncertain terms that the first thing learned by women in that profession is "get the money up front." It just don't happen. But evidently TV and Hollywood Film working girls are even more kind-hearten than Marcus Welby and Perry Mason. Satisfaction guaranteed or double your money back!!

A very good war classic, that doesn't have too much to do with the war, and is pretty much non-partisan.

The Sea Chase (1955) - IMDb
