Student fined $675,000 for sharing 30 songs
Although it promised not to file
any ‘new’ lawsuits against file sharers towards the end of last year, opting to work with ISPs instead, the RIAA also said it has no choice but to move forward with the legal process on
previously-filed cases.

A friend of mine I went to school with and who later became a Federal Judge once told me "..The fact that a judgment is entered in favor of the plantiff, does nothing to guarantee a judgement recovery from the defendant"
The moral of the story, winning is one thing, collecting is another. I guarantee that the student who lost has already filed for relief under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code!

what is really funny is that at WCU if your found to have downloaded and distibuted songs than your internet is turned off....a max of $500 for a fine and you have to take an online web course (you could finish it in an hour). Also you have to write a 5 page essay on copyright law and the penalities for breaking it...eventhough that is a bit of work...it is much better than $675,000

Don't really see the point, especially when I don't think the artists of the songs he shared are going to see a penny of it.

I don't know about artists not recieving a penny (they wouldn't continue to sing if they did it for free) but it is more the record lables here...they are just so greedy

And greedyness continues on both sides of the spectrum ... we all want something for free, but then again, to be charged with such an amount to be made an examlpe of what can be done, is mind boggling
