Does anyone remember Lyons Tea Rooms?
If my memory serves me right, the waitresses were known as Nippys.

Thanks for the pictures Hopalong, it looks like what my dad had were those large LPs. Apparently my mom threw them out last year, along with the old turntable, in a fit of spring cleaning. Oh well.
1 = A phone with a dial, not buttons.
A blind friend of mine had one, as did my parents in my younger days - since they swore that "they always dial touchtones too fast and mess up the number (I swear to god their cave-people)
2 = A black and white TV.
Again the visually-unresponsive friend listened to shows, and why upgrade to a color model? Yes she had the huge antannae, although I "reassigned" the moter unit to my own type of experimental concepts
3 = A car without power steering.
I sat in one and pushed the wheels a bit.
4 = A 45 rpm record.
had em as a child and got a free banana box of hit promos/demos, and ebayed them for several benjamins.
5 = A needle for a turntable.
I kinda needed one for #4 right? My buddy is a DJ and I also got a lot of hands-on (even tryed isolating the diamond from about a doz needles, before realizing diamonds are an allotrope of carbon that most ofthen resembles soot, without high temp/press)
6 = Ever been to a double feature movie. (that's two movies for the price of one)
Just at a local drive-in (still have a nearly matching pair of the speakers from the drive-in - i was bad and wanted unique car speaker system...kids!)
7 = Ever been to a record store where you can play the record before you buy it.
I think "Bananas" did that, but eather way, I spent hours at a DJ record shop w/ that same spinner, and broadend my musical appreciation to include some techo/trance
I thought I had more of these, but I can't think right now. Do any of you other "Mature Adults" know of any thing that they had 40 years ago that is gone now?
What about Pong, coleco, intellivision, atari 2600/5200/7800, the vic-20, commadore-64 (three of which ran the apollo-13!), Heres one...A CHEMISTRY SETS WITH CHEMICALS INSIDE, "DIRTY" fuel, payphones, cellphones tethered to a briefcase module, single flash camera cubes, or single use flash bulbs, the civil war....wait,...yeah thats a bit too far back I think.
That's about all i have to say about that,
MIKE
1) Chewing wax (for kids)
2) Nuclear attack drills
3) Unpaved roads everywhere
4) ENIAC
I had forgetten about chewing wax. When I was a kid you could buy these little two inch high wax bottles that had a flavored liquid in them. Just bite off the top and drink the liquid and chew on the wax. == OH YEA, nuclear attack drills. We would crouch down under our desks when the alarm went off. The theory behind that was if the bomb went off a good distance away, the desk would protect you from the nuclear fallout..............WHAT. Wasn't there anyone in our government who thought this might not work?
SURE! back then the desks were made out of pure lead, so great alpha/beta/gamma ray protection....but poor morbidity/motrality rates per class for the normal uneventful days!
