Windows 8 developer, is there a cost?

If you download and install Win 8 developer is it free for ever or will you have to pay for it in the future?

    Thanks

I think as Windows 8 is still in preview/beta version, it is free & maybe forever. But, when the RTM version is released, you want to pay for it.

Windows Developers Preview has a expiration date built-in. It will become unusable after that date.

Don't forget it's not the finished article so there'd be no point in buying it.

Its an unfinished product with some features that don't work. Even if you could use it forever I don't think most people would want to.

The real "cost" is being forced to use the Metro interface.

In theory, yes. In practice no. Some cheap hacker will hack out the mechanism if it hasn't been done already.

No you are not forced to use it... if you look on eightforums.com, you'll see there are ways of disabling it via registry and/or file edits. Speaking of which... maybe I should I write a quick C++ console app to do that automatically.
