How Your Busted Electronics May One Day Heal Themselves

When electronic components bite the dust, there's very little you can do. Unlike a leaky pipe or broken piece of plastic, it's not like you can tear off a piece of duct tape and fix a cracked or failed microchip. Best case scenario is you replace it, but if it's an integrated part or a discontinued chip, you might have to replace the whole device. Bummer. But what if a chip could heal itself?

It would be fantastic (eventually essential?).
Could you imagine the Boardroom debates with the sales people?

cool for some strange reason reminded me of a ATHF qoute.

Just try to imagine a world where emails are sent by your brain before they are written, and are read before they arrive by people you've never even met, in countries you've never even heard of.

I regret that I must agree. The only way that I can think of that a manufacturer might use this technology is if they used it to totally eliminate their warranties. Possibly, the saving in R&R would increase their profits even with the self-healing system. For new sales, they would have to rely on the customers wanting to upgrade their systems.
