Vince, the way I interpret their strategy, they will get away from the traditional new Windows version every 3 years. This blue stuff looks like incremental improvements which they will farm out every 6 months or so (a bit like Android) but MS will, of course, charge for it.

From a financial point of view that is a smart strategy because it gives them a much steadier cash flow than with the releases. It also would allow for different incremental improvements depending on the base (desktop, tablet, phone, etc.)

Time to kill two rumors: No, MS has not finished the beta version of Windows 9, and No, the start screen for Windows 9 has not been leaked. And now for some real news:

The Android Operating System is free, and many Android tablets are being sold at cost, at about $200. So why not a Windows 8 tablet for $240? A few weeks ago, one company produced a $79 Android tablet, so it looks like production costs can be lowered. One tech writer has predicted the demise of clamshell netbooks, along with a $200 Windows 8 tablet, by this time next year. I think he's right, and a low-cost Windows 9 tablet can't be far behind.

Absolutely right. I have a 32GB Nexus 7 (it cost $230) that I really love. So many things you can do that you cannot do with the PC. I also bought a Curtis Klu for $59 which works just as nicely as the Nexus. It is only a bit slower because it runs on a single core CPU and 512MB of RAM (versus quad core anr 1GB for the N7). But it has a micro SD card slot that the N7 does not have. I was lucky - I got a 7033D model that was already rooted.

If the Windows devices do not come down in price, they will seriously lag behind. Especially since they have no apps store like the Google Playstore or the Amazon Apps store. And to put insult to injury I read that the MS tablets have quite some hardware problems.

On my Nexus I have a beautiful office package, I can use the Nexus as a navigation device which works much better then Tom Tom etc. because it has a bigger screen and I have street view or Sattelite view, I can make free phone calls with Groove IP - even from Europe to the US, I can watch TV, movies, shows with the appropriate apps, etc. - my favorite is Tom & Jerry, LOL.

Find me apps for that at the Windows store - and all apps were free except the Kingsoft Office which cost $6 or $7.

Okay, Folks, thee are more rumors than there are facts, but here goes:

Number 1: It is not true that you can buy leaked builds of Windows 9, and the people selling them are both liars and crooks. A "build" consists of one or more new features built into a previous operating system (because the new OS isn't ready yet) for testing purposes. Yes, there are several Windows 9 builds at MS, and No, none of them have been leaked.

It is confirmed that MS is working on various new laptop models that will be running Windows Blue and/or Windows 9. It is almost certain that Blue will be a low-priced upgrade, but it will not be a stand-alone OS; you will have to install it on top of a previous Windows OS. It is safe to say that MS, desperate to get both XP and 7 off the market, will make it easy to install it on both of them at a low cost.

Statements by MS employees show that developers are working on various projects, but MS has to observe their progress before deciding when each project will be added to a new OS. Since thee is no talk from MS about when a new OS will be released, it is safe to say (in my opinion) that Blue will only be an upgrade, while 9 will not be available this year.

MS is working on Windows 9 but they are no where near a Beta stage. I doubt that there is an Alpha stage. They also are working on Windows 10 that will make Windows 8 look a piece of artwork,
