I agree with you.
I am using Windows 8 and after tweaking it a fair bit it now looks a lot like 7, but that being said, I would rather have a desktop that doesn't require any tweaks to make it run like I want. Hopefully Windows 9, or whatever they call it, will be a more traditional desktop OS, but I won't hold my breath waiting!
Totally agree and hope Microsoft gives some of us the choice to use a more traditional desktop. Though at the moment it seems the other way around, hopefully Microsoft gets out of the whole touch screen faze they are in at the moment.
Windows 8 I wouldn't say horrible but just kind of inconvenient for me since I would have to do all these tweaks like you said to get it to work the way I like. Also the whole thing with the Microsoft store sounds like they could possibly limit on what you can install in your machine. Though I could be wrong but have heard some peeps talk about it. Anyways I'm probably going to stay with windows 7 until it loses support. Going to be like one of those xp guys but with windows 7. Who knows I might change my mind if the next version of windows catches my attention enough and seems worth the upgrade or not. I'm usually open to new ideas as long as they are good.
There is a lot of new speculation about Windows 9, so let me give you some facts:
1) There is no Windows 9 beta, and the people selling them are crooks. MS will take a new program and install it on Windows 8 (or 7) to test it, and the new OS is called a "build." MS has not released any builds to the public.
2) Although I consider Windows 8 easy to use, many users do not. I predict that Windows 9 will simplify the procedure for using the desktop without the Start Page.
3) It is widely-agreed that Windows 8 is badly under-selling Windows 7 for the same time period. To be fair, Win 7 was replacing Win XP (an outstanding system primarily designed for 32-bit computers) and the unsuccessful Vista OS. Win 8, on the other hand, is supposed to replace Win 7, which runs great. But since it only costs $40 to upgrade to 8, MS may have really botched things up.
4) Yes, MS is working on future operating systems right now. They do not seem to have a concrete plan for what Windows 9 will be like, however. They are working on specific projects that will be parts of a new OS, or which could even be parts for an upgrade to 8.
Vince, even for $40, Windows 8 is a bummer. I see all these people standing on their head to tweak and twist to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7 - what is the point. I'd rather stay on /7.
And all of that tweaking and twisting will probably disappear with the first sfc /sannow.
I also predict that Windows 9 will use a mouse and keyboard. Imagine playing an action game with a touchscreen.
This just in! ZDNet, a reliable tech site, reports that Windows Blue WILL go on sale during the summer of 2013. MS has not decided if this will be Windows 9 or an upgrade to Windows 8. Industry specialists are SPECULATING (in other words, they are making intelligent guesses) that for the next few years, MS will concentrate on low-price improvements being released every several months.
