Did anyone know this? I know it's a old news but I was kind of shocked to see this ... Keep in mind that doing NO Google searches on your computer will have the same effect.
Anyway, 14 g is entirely trivial. How does that compare to backing your car out of the driveway, just once? | My System Specs | | |

(and a teensy little bit of power is also used by your nic, router, isp etc etc when data is sent and received.)
anyway, the OP's article is nearly three years old, and google have taken steps to ensure the power used by their data centres isn't as much as it once was. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

yes there is. printing uses a lot more power (and paper and ink/toner and printer wear-and-tear) than googling.
you could even consider generalising the sig into "consider the environment before doing anything".
however, you also have to realise that using power is unavoidable in the modern world - just try not to waste too much of it! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |
