I suspect it is more a question of inclination than of facts. Some people are still running XP while the early adopters are already running it. (WDP)

I've never thought tablets are a substitute for desktop computing. They are complimentary and as the price of tablets drops further I bet demand will grow. Is Windows 8 an attempt to provide one OS for both??? If so I think it's a big gamble.
I'll buy at least one more retail copy of Windows 7 before 8 hits the shelves. MS tend to rapidly pull old versions (ie 7) once the new one is on the shelves.

This looks like Redmond's vision of the future of computing and Windows:
The future is amazing, and Microsoft has video to prove it

So if that "Popular Science" article comes to fruition then Windows will certainly need to be touch-able. (I'm still waiting for my flying car).

OP: we need a 3rd option in the poll: "Wait and see".
You're right but how can I do that?

Not if it's a piece of junk like Windows 7. If this new Dell would run Vista I'd be going back in a minute. I had less problems with Vista in 4 years than this garbage in 4 months.

Oh Windows 7 is not not that bad. Admittedly it still needs some bugs fixed. Now the Dell hardware - well that's a big unknown.

Then my inclination is to wait and see.
