    Antman, which browser are you using? your permilinks are acting screwy. if it's FF, i rightclick, and copy link location on the the post number. that usually always works.
    (of course i've only used it a few times)
    Is it wonky again?

    Does this - How the First Planets Formed - take you here -

    No, goz to Sassa Post # 1 still...

    Does this take you there ?

    How the First Planets Formed

    Hell yes, for me, and my FF.

    BUT, they're NOT the same URL, though same title:

    yours = ...formed.htm

    mine = ...formed-8.htm

    You uzn FF or MS ?

    Press Release: September 09, 2009

    Antman announces he will no longer use permalinks in his SF posts.

    The known fix is intolerable to the Antman.
    As they say in Texas:

    "Don't gitcher britches in an uproar, yet..."

    But, if I change my page sort to Linear oldest first, the link works properly.

    I will NOT use the forum sorted in this manner. If FF can solve the issue, I will switch to FF and keep my preferred sort.

    And continue to use permalinks.
    Ahhh,
    There's the answer...
    I use:
    Thread Display Mode
    Here you can choose the display mode for threads. For a full explanation of the modes, please view this help page.
    Linear - Oldest First
    Linear - Newest First
    Threaded
    Hybrid
    Therefore, the Newest posts are at the End of the thread.

    Obviously, the URL's 'page_count' and 'msge_nbr' is not recomputed for the 'other' guy,
    i.e., the one who uses the other way:

    It just plops user at Page 1, FIRST message, period.

    Could take a poll, with test URLs from each "sort method".

    It doesn't seem to be a problem with the "Permalink" per se.
    The "upchucked rule" seems to be:
    'It works right IFF if you have the same sort order as the OP, else Page 1'.
