Thanks, I googled a Wikipedia article on it, and while it seems a logical symbol for Australia, I also looked up the word crux in an online dictionary, and it defined it as a symbol for a question. Therefore the shape of the constellation has a dual significance, as Australia is a question mark in itself.

That also, but this is what I was referring to:

Quote:
Definition of CRUX
1
: a puzzling or difficult problem : an unsolved question
2
: an essential point requiring resolution or resolving an outcome <the crux of the problem>
3
: a main or central feature (as of an argument)
See crux defined for English-language learners Ľ
See crux defined for kids Ľ
Examples of CRUX
<the crux of the problem is that the school's current budget is totally inadequate>
Origin of CRUX
Latin cruc-, crux cross, torture
First Known Use: 1718
