Hi there

Can't promise you an escape from the rain -- however for a total change from typical vacations and some really STUNNING scenery why not take a two - three hr flight from Glasgow to Iceland - or for you probably Manchester is easier
Flights to Iceland, details of UK to Iceland flights

Other interesting places

Costa Rica -- this time of year fine -- about 70% of the country is a Nature Reserve, on the whole a very safe and well educated Country with excellent medical facilities if you need them

Peru - Machu Picchu

Chile -- almost anywhere in this country is interesting -- also in recent years you don't need to worry about personal safety

Finally China -- anywhere in this huge country is likely to be an interesting experience to say the least.

Anyway wherever you go -- enjoy and all the best for 2012.

Cheers
