Amazon Kindle Fire - Rooted it. Today I bought a 7-inch Android tablet (Amazon Kindle Fire, $199). I have an iPod Touch, and a Windows Phone 7.5 phone. So I have all 3 major mobile platforms now... lol . Anyone else have a Kindle Fire? Looked up its specs, and it has higher pixel density than the iPad 2, a 1 GHz dual core, and 512 MB of RAM. Absolutely insane for only $199. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number iBuyPower Chimera X58 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7 920 Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Memory 12GB (2GB x6) Triple Channel DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 Sound Card Integrated Digital HD 7.1 Surround Sound Monitor(s) Displays 24.6-inch ASUS VW246H 20000:1 Contrast, 2 ms response time, Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Razer Lycosa Mouse iBuyPower Ergonomical Internet Mouse PSU NZXT 800W Gaming Series Case Guardian Inferno (Custom Painted NZXT Guardian 921) Cooling Thermaltake V1 Fan Cooling System OC Proof Hard Drives 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II 3 GBps 16MB cache Internet Speed 11 MBps High-speed Cable |

GF got one few weeks back. It's alright. Wouldn't completely call it an Android tablet as-is, personally myself. A heavily locked down-Amazonified customed out Android tablet, maybe. Of course it is possible to root it and get a pretty close stock Android OS experience on it though if one desired. It's not too bad, although sans a physical volume button wasn't too bright IMO. They could have put that on the device. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Airbot 2.0 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 920 (D0) @ 4Ghz, *26c idle *65c full load on air Motherboard Asus P6X58D Premium - Sata 6Gb/s - USB 3.0 Memory 12GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator -CMD12GX3M6A1600C8 at 1600MHz Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 -Aftermaket Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler Sound Card ASUS Xonar D2X Monitor(s) Displays 1 LG 24" Flatron W2453V-PF 1 Samsung 24" P2450H both 2ms RT Screen Resolution 1920x1080@60hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless MK700 Mouse Logitech Wireless MK700 PSU Corsair HX1000W Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Cooling Case Fans *3 230mm, *1 140mm/CPU - *Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Hard Drives 1 OCZ Vertex2 180GB SSD

I actually like the lack of buttons. As for rooting it, I've never had an Android device before, so I'm not sure exactly what that means. I have managed to download and install some apk files on it for various Google components. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number iBuyPower Chimera X58 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7 920 Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Memory 12GB (2GB x6) Triple Channel DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 Sound Card Integrated Digital HD 7.1 Surround Sound Monitor(s) Displays 24.6-inch ASUS VW246H 20000:1 Contrast, 2 ms response time, Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Razer Lycosa Mouse iBuyPower Ergonomical Internet Mouse PSU NZXT 800W Gaming Series Case Guardian Inferno (Custom Painted NZXT Guardian 921) Cooling Thermaltake V1 Fan Cooling System OC Proof Hard Drives 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II 3 GBps 16MB cache Internet Speed 11 MBps High-speed Cable |

Any candidates? Kindle Fire is $199, and it does video and MP3s well. Especially with Amazon's cloud service that it comes with. Since it is Android, it does Flash Player, too. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number iBuyPower Chimera X58 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7 920 Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Memory 12GB (2GB x6) Triple Channel DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 Sound Card Integrated Digital HD 7.1 Surround Sound Monitor(s) Displays 24.6-inch ASUS VW246H 20000:1 Contrast, 2 ms response time, Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Razer Lycosa Mouse iBuyPower Ergonomical Internet Mouse PSU NZXT 800W Gaming Series Case Guardian Inferno (Custom Painted NZXT Guardian 921) Cooling Thermaltake V1 Fan Cooling System OC Proof Hard Drives 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II 3 GBps 16MB cache Internet Speed 11 MBps High-speed Cable |

A big chunk of the buyers don't like the lack of the volume button, among other things. For 200 bucks, it's pretty nice actually. Not saying you are or will but,
I wouldn't grow and then base your opinion of the Android OS off of the stock locked down device, though. Being it's your first hands on of it. It is quite far from what stock Android OS can look like, and is capable of. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Airbot 2.0 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 920 (D0) @ 4Ghz, *26c idle *65c full load on air Motherboard Asus P6X58D Premium - Sata 6Gb/s - USB 3.0 Memory 12GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator -CMD12GX3M6A1600C8 at 1600MHz Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 -Aftermaket Accelero Xtreme Plus cooler Sound Card ASUS Xonar D2X Monitor(s) Displays 1 LG 24" Flatron W2453V-PF 1 Samsung 24" P2450H both 2ms RT Screen Resolution 1920x1080@60hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless MK700 Mouse Logitech Wireless MK700 PSU Corsair HX1000W Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Cooling Case Fans *3 230mm, *1 140mm/CPU - *Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Hard Drives 1 OCZ Vertex2 180GB SSD

I already looked up a tutorial and got the stock Android GUI to work on it. Also got Minecraft: Pocket Edition running on it. This thing is a good mobile gaming device for only $200. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number iBuyPower Chimera X58 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7 920 Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Memory 12GB (2GB x6) Triple Channel DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 Sound Card Integrated Digital HD 7.1 Surround Sound Monitor(s) Displays 24.6-inch ASUS VW246H 20000:1 Contrast, 2 ms response time, Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Razer Lycosa Mouse iBuyPower Ergonomical Internet Mouse PSU NZXT 800W Gaming Series Case Guardian Inferno (Custom Painted NZXT Guardian 921) Cooling Thermaltake V1 Fan Cooling System OC Proof Hard Drives 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II 3 GBps 16MB cache Internet Speed 11 MBps High-speed Cable |
