Kodak bankruptcy report spooks stock holders

    (AP)
ROCHESTER, New York - An uncomfortable suspicion that an icon of American business may have no future pushed investors to dump stock in Eastman Kodak Co. Wednesday.

The ailing photography pioneer's shares fell to a new all-time low after the Wall Street Journal reported that Kodak is preparing for a bankruptcy filing "in the coming weeks" should it fail to sell a trove of 1,100 digital-imaging patents.

How the times have changed. Kodak, one of the giants in the industry for making film considering chapter 11. The local supermarkets used to have film drops, now most of them have gotten rid of that. Just 6 months ago I saw a sign where the film drop used to be at a local market saying that due to slow sales in film developing, the service was no longer available.

Yup, with a digi-cam and a printer one can have a nice print in hand in a couple of minutes, don't even need a PC. Some stores offer that service here, insert your media and they will make a print.

    It's 100% their own fault.

They actually invented the digital camera, but then did NOTHING with it because the lifetime board members and upper management could not see beyond plastic and chemicals.

I don't see how selling off all their IP is going to help things in the long term though :/

Kodak looks like its not long for this world

    Hi everyone
In a way this is not surprising

BBC News - Kodak shares tumble 28% amid fears about its future

It's a bit of a shame though -- I must have spent many hours in my youth playing about with Kodak films but Kodak didn't see the digital revolution coming clearly enough and will now probably pay the ultimate penalty.

When they first introduced digital cameras they were really unwieldy and HIDEOUSLY expensive -- Canon finally after their deal with Kodak came to an end could make their own cameras which were orders of magnitude cheaper than Kodak.

Had Kodak gone into some sort of partnership with Adobe (Photoshop) or MS (for multi media stuff) they could have got a decent foot in the market -- but too late again.

Even movies now are almost entirely digitally produced.

The scanner and printer market has also gone to the likes of epson, canon, nikon etc.

It's difficult to see what Kodak actually stands for -- although it's almost sad to say a huge iconic global brand disappear apart from around 19,000 jobs world wide.

I'm sure the CEO's will no doubt walk away with HUGE "bonuses" or payments while the poor old workers are forced into unemployment lines.

    Cheers

Look how many years it took Kokak to get into making their own printers for pc's. I have two of them and also worry about ink. No company can be years behind other companies in new product R and D and stay alive. I hoping that some capitalist will buy the company and get it looking ahead for new products instead of just being on the side lines watching. Kodak needs some new blood in the board room.
