Virgin Media to double the speed of customer broadband
Wahoooo.... 100gb connection on its way!
They seem to have a habit of doubling the connections speeds free of change and this is about the 3rd or 4th time it has happened to me. Thanks Mr Branson!

I've posted a thread that all this is meaningless if they still CAP your Bandwidth -- HD movies etc are fine via Internet but with a monthly limit likely to bear NO resemblance to what a user actually needs this will all go to waste.
This stuff is GREAT for UNLIMITED downloads etc.
Otherwise the only benefit is that you reach your Monthly limit after 2 days instead of 22. !!

It is good news and Virgin doesn't have a download limit but it does apply traffic management to reduce your speed if you exceed defined limits. Last time I looked a 10Mb line allows 3GB during the day and 1.5GB during the evening. No cap at night. The speed is reduced to 20% for 5 hours f you exceed this.
The reduction is to 25%,
The day period is 10am to 3pm
The evening is 3pm to 10pm

i suspect its to combat BT who are rolling out infinity in more areas now, we are just around the corner from being connected, they have spent the last few months putting the cables and junction boxes round our town so not long now,
at last my unlimited bt connection will be worth it.
It's OK for some,round here there's no chance we'll ever get cable and I doubt if BT will ever get around to giving our little corner decent speeds, even though we're surrounded by MoD establishments who I would think would love to have better links.
i would think the MOD have their own internet and satellites etc,
my guess is that in the future there will be legislation about the speeds people receive, then little towns and villages will get the good speeds too. and wales
It would be nice, but I won't hold my breath, mind you after today I don't have a lot to hold.

This is EXACTLY the srt of problem I was mentioning
3GB is NOTHING these days if you want to start watching HD movies etc etc directly from the Internet -- which is easy to do with decent fast download speeds -- 3GB is about 60 mins of movie !!!!!
As I said before it's POINTLESS if they start capping or reducing speed -- as I mentioned before --you'll reach your monthly limit in say 2 days instead of 22.
This mega fast stuff only makes sense if they will provide you with essentially an unlimited service -- otherwise a bog standard 6GB is fine.
