A truly stunning video. I've not tried surfing myself (it doesn't appeal to me), but that video was remarkable. :)

Let me tell you, I'm a surfer here on the east coast of NC....I've surfed some knarly waves from hurricanes and nor'easters in my day and thought that was big. The biggest I've ridden was some 20 plus footers. To see the thickness of the lip on those monsters, I'm guessing them to be 8 to 12 feet thick is just mind boggling. To eat a wave (wipe out) of that magnitude and thickness is not worth the risk. To read Kelly Slaters comments just confirmed mine. Holy shit what an adrenaline rush it would be....great find indeed.

Thats crazy , i admire these guys but you would never catch me on a surfboard,

i introduced a friend of mine to the forum last year and he has posted a few times, but in the late 60's and early 70's he was the world surf champion five times.
he used to make his own boards and they are now like collectors pieces.
i cant say who he is as he's quite modest about these things.

so seven forums has its own world champion surfer

That's freaking AWESOME!!! Surfing was in it's infancy back then and "unknown surfer" help launch it into what it is today.

maybe someday we can encourage him to post about his experiences,
he went on to work in television as a cameraman and has made a few surf films and written some books.

he lives in cornwall and has ocean views from his house so i guess the surf is still in his blood.
