...Nitrosoma and nitrobacter thrive on ammonia and nitrite, not algae...they aren't capable of managing algae occurrence in tanks.
My own experience contradicts that. A tank with an established biological filter never had a problem with thread algae. A new tank that hadn't had a chance to establish a biological filter would be overrun by thread algae in just a few days.

True, chlorine will destroy a biological filter but, sometimes, it's the only way to kill a stubborn infection. In the case of the thread algae, it only would thrive in a newly setup tank that didn't have a biological filter established yet. But, I could drain off all the water in a tank except was needed to keep the biological filter in the tank immersed and replace it with fresh water from the tap and I wouldn't get a thread algae infection. It doesn't take long to reestablish a biological filter and, as long as the fish load isn't too high, the fish will do fine until it is reestablished.

Holy Thread Revival Batman!!!...
I didn't notice the date of this thread because I found it in New Posts. I always enter Seven Forums via a link in my Favorites Bar that takes me directly to my UserCP so I can first check for threads I'm subscribed to. After checking them, I click on NewPosts to see what's been posted in all forums since I was last here rather than having go into each and every forum one at a time. For some reason, this older thread showed up in New Posts and I didn't notice the date because I had no reason to look at it. Unless looking for a specific thread (and, even then, I usually use the search function), I almost never browse through the forums directly and I wasn't doing so when this thread cropped up.
