Nah, keep doing what you're doing......that is "being helpful".
Although it may not be right to copy someone word for word, a generous rewording should suffice.
I've reworded, goofed, erred, offended and probably made more than a few people mad.
At over 1900 posts, I'm sure you've helped quite a few people.
Keep up the good work! :)
Actually, the only copying and pasting I did was using my own words. I keep an .rtf file with all my suggestions so I don't have to write them out each time since I am generally helping 15-20 people at a time. I just judiciously pick the steps that best fit a given scenario after CAREFULLY reading the person's posts. I admit that sometimes I miss a line when reading, but I didn't feel it justified being jumped on as I was.
Just advice, not a criticism. :)

I didn't think it was criticism. I just wasn't sure if you understood what I meant by copying and pasting, so I was trying to be clearer. When I use someone else's methods, I always cite the source, even if I use different words. My posts are often riddled with thanks to those who helped me understand things.

If you give up, the ingrates have won.

Rather than dwell on one poor experience think of all people you have helped.

None of us are infallible so just make a mental note never to help this individual again.

To coin a favourite WW2 phrase: 'Keep calm and carry on' :)

We appreciate what you do and that's all that matters.

It wasn't just him that made me feel discouraged, he was just the proverbial straw. I've been getting a few suggestions lately from the more experienced users, and some have been a little critical of my methods when I feel like I'm doing the same things as other people helping on there... Just wonder if I'm cut out to keep helping.

I copy and paste from Brinks tutorials all the time. I wrap quote tags.

Why would you wrap quote tags on your own stuff? You don't.

I'd love to see this thread you refer to.
It isn't that hard to find. I just don't want to link to it as I feel that would be kinda like finger pointing.

Nevermind, the thread has been removed and is no longer accessible.

A couple years ago on here there was an experienced poster who kept belittling my contributions, it was virtually stalking...

I think he actually got banned, in the end. I'd walked away in the interim, and I only recently came back here...

Glad there is someone else who knows what I'm going through. :) I think it is hard to find a line to walk and help a lot of people while at the same time doing everything for each one so they can fix the problem. The crashes and debugging forum is pretty demanding since new users show up sometimes every few seconds, and a lot of times there is only one of us working in there.
