Just in case ... your replacement doesn't come ... or you need to provide more service ? Well, if it is the condition of the job, you have no way but accept it . Spend this time as best as you can. As you can, at least come to the forums ... all your friends are here It will be a nice timepass !!
Just in case I have to ship something. To put it bluntly, our customers are dumbasses.
Yeah I have my phone, so I can tool around on the forums to pass the time.

Your customers may be dumbasses (must remember that one) but they do keep you in a job.

On this side of the pond, unemployment is becoming a real problem, particularly among the younger generation who are short on experience.

To give you an example, 50% of young black people are without a job, universty graduates can't find work of any sort and people over 50 who fall out of work stand little or no chance of ever being employed again.

I know it sounds like I'm preaching, but be grateful for what you have because you'll sure as hell miss it if you lose it.

Oh, i'm grateful for what I have, but some of our customers are getting to the point to where they don't know what they need until it's too late. Then somehow they think it's OUR fault that they run out of stuff. We can only send them what they order, and no one wants to have inventory anymore, so they go until they are almost run clean of inventory, then call us and say "oh, we need this by morning or we are going to have to shut down".
Well, tough crap, it doesn't work that way. They know that. Once it's too late, it's too late. Should have let us know sooner.
The "just in time" system of ordering stuff doesn't mean last minute, it means figure it out so you know what you need, when you need it, and have it planned already.
2 customers in particular are really bad, they ran themselves out of parts on Thursday, and called us and said they were out, and that they need some. Told them their forecasting isn't worth a crap, so oh well, nothing we can do about it. Quit being such tight asses and figure out what you need ahead of time so this doesn't happen.

I could have time to be bored. I drove 278 miles today. Thanks goodness there is a classic rock station in the central coast / Monterey peninsula!

It works both ways.

If your boss wasn't such a tight ass he'd build his inventory taking into account historical trends so he'd have a better chance of keeping in stock what his customers need.

Take for example a computer hard drive. If it fails at 4pm on a Friday afternoon, that's when you want a replacement, not a week later because the supplier has no stock.

This 'just in time' stock control is all very well, but I just wonder how many sales are lost because of it?

My new basketball ring is up and running. It's adjustable from 8" - 10" so it's perfect. I can dunk on about 9" so I can lower it if I want to.
