Jaidyn, a buzzword in the UK that I absolutely abhor is 'staycation'.

In these times of austerity people are being encouraged to holiday at home i.e. stay in the country for your vacation hence staycation.

English is a wonderful language and it makes me as mad as hell when words are butchered like this.

Staycation? Never heard of that one but it definitely sounds rather odd. What about 'flustrated'?

Today I was nearly flattened out by a cyclist who seemed to think that cycling on the footpath was a perfectly normal thing to do

For us linguists, such blends, or portmanteau words, or examples of lexical interlocking are treasure troves and an expression of linguistic creativity ;-) Others, of course, consider such a phenomenon as contributing to the butchery and degradation of the English language. There are many ways of looking at it. I could go on about concepts of hybridity, but everyone would be bored to tears
