I had heard that the last (and only) time Topper tried to have a bath, the water got out in disgust.

Water was sent to bio hazard clinic for purification.

I guess the best way to fumigate the uni is to simply open the windows As for the IT team... I may need to borrow Topper's bathwater in order to splash it at them and wake them up

I posted this in the VF, and felt like ranting. Some may recognize the problems I am mentioning because I have been so mad about it, i've posted it here before.

Today, finally got the news at work that they are going to "set me up" with a laptop (something that I've needed for about 2 years now).
The begging question is, will someone in the front office get a new one, and i'll get a hand-me-down (like they usually do with their PC's) or will I get a new one, which would make more sense.

Which brings up the 2nd issue....if I get a hand me down, it will probably have XP still. If I get a new one, would they still be so anal about it and wipe it and put XP on it? Truthfully, my guess would be YES.
I don't understand why they are so stuck on XP. Everything we have will run on 7. They just don't want anyone other than the office people to have anything new or not obsolete. The current PC'o crap that I am using has XP. I've mentioned this problem before here, but it just drives me nuts. They are afraid to allow any "unneeded" internet access to anyone, so if I need to get to company websites, I have to have them "add it" to the whitelist, which creates all kinds of other problems when places redirect to a different domain(then that has to be added too, and so on...).
They have licenses for things like Office, and all kinds of stuff that's needed, yet, i'm still on a really old version of Office, so I can't open .docx files. The front office people have the latest of course. I actually have to mail it to someone in the office, they convert it, and then send it back to me. Holy hell, would it kill em to just update me to what they are using? For PDF's, i'm stuck with Adobe reader 6, which can't open half of the stuff I need to open either. Without any internet access, nothing gets updated, even the AV is a mess because of this.

I've bitched about this stuff for years, and none of it does any good because they don't trust anyone at all. If I keep bitching, it's just going to turn into a war, so from this point on, i'm just going to bug them for every little thing, so they have to take care of so many things maybe they'll have to rethink how things are done that they'll change it just to shut me up.

    .....rant over.

    MW,
Be careful about bugging them till they get it as it may lead to your exit interview.
"You can lead a horse to water but play hell getting it to drink it!"

There are alot of large major corporations still using XP and mainly it's too hard to teach old horses new tricks.
    JMHO!

I think the only reason they are even now doing this is because without it, they would have to hire me a secretary type person. There's just too much time spent running back and forth between the warehouse and my office, just to do something on the PC. It's constant running, and all of the stupid new things we are having to do for the customers is making it really hard to keep up.
I've been doing all of this extra stuff for about a year now, and after that amount of time, I know what I need to make it easier. I brought it up at my review about 2 weeks ago, and it was "a great plan".

The problem here, is that the IT department is ONE person. Not exactly a fast one either. Hell, they may have the laptop by Monday, but I know damn well it'll be at least a month after that that he gets it set up for me. I'd be about tempted to just tell them to give it to me, give me the software and let me install the crap. At least it would get done quick.
They know i'm upset about all of this extra work, and that I want this stuff, but they have a lot of experience at dragging their feet with just about everything possible. Unless it's an emergency, they're in no hurry.

I have been tempted to really search and find something else, and tell them if they're going to increase my workload, and not give me any help or anything that I need, then they can find someone else. Where I am, that would really scare them. I took over for the previous guy when he got fired ( I was trained and was his backup). There is no one trained at all right now that could do what I do. It would take at least 2 months straight to train someone good enough to know what they are doing, and we have no one. Again, because they don't want to hire anyone.
No one in the whole place would have a clue where to start. Hell, there's some days where I have to guess on some of the stuff. The only reason they are starting to do what i'm asking is because they know i'm not happy about it taking so long. In my review I made that perfectly clear.

Thought only here in my country we have so called stubborn management system with dead conservative mind.

But here what I did that made my corporate climate getting better. (using Stephen Covey method)
I did make good acquaintances with the hospital administration, keep helping them on things they are not familiar with.
How did I make myself appear? I started with giving very careful opinion at every meeting, made it as distinguish idea that implicitly make me as the one who should be included in the works. By those I made a big saving of emotional account.
From that point I was able to drive the course to better climate, But I should be able to take account of any worst thing come out with it. But it worth.
I remember when I did things in a hard way, I got even bigger bump at every single move I made.
Now every one have Win 7 seven in their machines, internet connection, offfice 2007, and whatever they need.
I can freely do thing with win 8 with my two machines in my office.
Just funny I think. I am a nurse but I have an official assignment to assist IT officer in managing data center.

    Happy I made it.

I think you should try once

Truly global and the bigger the company the worse it can be, some better than others but, all I've been associated with are bad in some major way.
