Administrators - Make the Name More Generic

Administrators, can you change this from "Windows 7" forums to something that also includes windows 8? I like this forum and I don't want to have to go to a different one when Windows 8 becomes mainstream.

Actually, I was just thinking this yesterday. It seems we need to register to participate in discussions on eightforums?

Yep I believe (Z3r010 would know for sure) the registration is separate. It has been so long since I registered there (2009) I forget.

Hmm, possibly they could set it up that your profile could be usable across the different forums. I realise it would be impossible to implement people's posts (ie your 25k would be lost once you move entirely, for example? ), but an actual profile shift by logging in the once with your details from here? But it may take heaps of time (if it could be taken) and probably on different servers, too.

Oh dear, it's like that rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Someone, quick, the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!

You need to register separately at each of our sister Forums (links in my sig). Post count and reputation are not carried across between Forums, they are separate and pertain only to the one Forum.

The sites have been up and running for years and I doubt they would want to take the time at this point. Its no big deal to log onto each separately and remember the uid and pword.

The problem with merging a Windows 7 forum with a Windows 8 forum would surely be confusion relating to the operating system under discussion.

Some people seem to have an aversion to answering a simple question so a request to determine whether their problem related to Windows 7 or Windows 8 would probably get the same response.

On balance, I think it's far better for each operating system to have its own forum. That way there can be no confusion as to which system the problem relates to.

Yeah, I meant more so as a keypass scenario, rather than any merger, as such. Someone tomorrow may (hypothetical scenario here - and one may, or may not care) register with your, or my, or someone else's, handle.

Then again, someone may wish to register on Win8 with a different username.

The person to speak to is Z3r010 but IMHO I doubt it would be worth the effort and having separate user data bases makes keeping track of them easier, and more secure. Contact John (Z3r010) if you need clarification.
