    Hardware/Software Support Class Help

For one one of my Hardware/Software assignments I have to create a problem on a fellow students PC.

The problem has to be software-based.

The PC's have a fresh install of XP and Win7 on separate hdd's.

There are no other programs installed- just what is on the installation discs.

My knowledge of creating problems is limited, I don't want to have the problem fixed by reinsstalling OS.

All the students have novice, to intermediate knowledge of PC's.

We have to fill out a work order stating the problem, and another work order stating what was done to correct the problem.

Not sure how simple you want it.

You can change the association with a file extension, so that another program tries to open it. For instance, a graphic file (.jpg) - you can change the association so notpad tries to open it.

    How?

Right click a jpg image. Select "open with". Choose Default Program. Click on the check mark to always use this program. Select Browse. Select notepad.exe.

To undo this, repeat above, this time selecting the ORIGINAL program that was opening your jpg by default.

    Good luck!

If you want to make it a little more difficult, you could also make the boot partition inactive.

You could create a screen capture of the desktop, set that up as wallpaper, and remove the icons. Just kidding, but that would drive him nuts.

A slight deviation to the above is to leave the screen as it is, but to edit the shortcuts so that they are pointing to the wrong programs. For example, let's suppose that you have Paint, Notepad, Wordpad, and Freecell shortcuts on the desktop. Normally, these would open their respective programs, but you could edit the targets so that Paint opens Wordpad, Notepad > Freecell, Wordpad > Notepad and Notepad > Paint.

How about when you click on win logo a full screen screenshot of the safemode options screen pops up, and getting out of it by right click and close
