I think the writing was on the wall when the SCI-FI channel became the SY-FY channel.
Good ole' Siffy where ratings trump content and if the show hasn't achieved successful ratings by the end of the first season, see ya!

I guess the Reality Shows are cheap to make and people watch them like crazy.
That's why networks love them and they're so damn prolific. Far cheaper to produce than scripted productions.

I just wonder how long they can go on though.
They'll go on as long they keep bringing in the $$$.

    Hi there
Even the "Scrobbits" addicted to TV 24 hrs a day are getting fed up with "Reality Shows" so the $$$'s won't be appearing indefinitely.

One good side effct from the sheer hideousness of modern TV is that "Old Fashioned Steam Radio" is back in vogue -- BBC R4 often has really FANTASTIC output -- and people are learning to read books again -- or at least get them via Audio books.

We used to have a free TV day in Iceland -- On Thursdays no TV used to be transmitted -- and this was great --people would actually go out and SPEAK to each other.

Can't agree with the conclusion of this but here's the evidence. !!!

    http://www.funtrivia.com/askft/Question21710.html

This type of restriction has long since gone out of the window with cable and satellite TV but I think as more and more people are getting disillusioned by what the Networks are offering there's hope for us all as people abandon the medium altogether.

However if you are a young budding author you could potentially make a LOT OF MONEY by writing scripts that people would really enjoy -- and as SCI FI fans are really starved of material these days you could perhaps be the next "Bill Gates" !!.

    Cheers

Yeah, we have hundreds of TV channels and usually nothing good. News arent even good these days and half the time they tell me useless stuff.
If no good new series come up and get released netflix and a few other media companies will be in trouble. There is just no way i will pay money to watch some crap reality tv show.

    I recommend The River. it's not a sci-fi but it's a nice interesting show.

So far they planned out 8 episodes for season 1

When I moved back to the US in 1991, there was 2 or 3 channels in Iceland.
1 free over the air (technically not free since you paid a tax for it) and 1 or 2 paid channel requiring a box.
Are there more channels there now? some of my friends had satellite, which I think was called Sky.

When did they have no TV Thursdays?

    Hi there:

    Answer :

Why is there no t.v. programs scheduled in Iceland on thursdays ?

Satellite TV is available in most of the country -- so is Cable -- remember though at the Artic Circle Satellite TV becomes impossible -- which is probably why Internet TV streaming is popular - Broadband speeds are fine.

I watched the 2-hour premiere, but it seemed just too strange for me. I can see it being a show like "Lost".
