Okay, feel free to laugh at this...

Hey everyone. Okay, so last Wednesday I get home and my mother says the phone is not working. Sure enough, there's no dial tone, and it also didn't work when I plugged my spare telephone into the jack. And what great timing it was, because a tooth of hers broke that day, and since I had our cell phone with me at work, she couldn't call the dentist.

So Friday we call AT&T. The service rep says they will send somebody out. I stay home and wait ... no knock at the door. Saturday we call again. An automated message says our issue will be fixed by Sunday at 8 PM. Great.

Sunday morning. Doorbell rings. There's the AT&T guy, saying they fixed the problem and asking if our phones are working again. I tell him no, we still have no dial tone.

"Are you sure it's plugged in?" he asks.

Uh ... hmm, well, sure, I thought I plugged the phone back into the jack, but let's take a quick look-see...

Uh, whoops ... no, the phone was not plugged back into the jack!

So I thanked him very much, and he said no problem. He confirmed that there actually was a legitimate problem on their end that affected some customers, including us, but of course, the moral of the story once again here is Rule #1 of Tech:

Plug your device in, and it just might start working again!

Been there, got the tee shirt...

Daftest thing I ever did (other than getting married) was doing an oil change on a 7.5t truck... got it all lovely and hot, whipped out the sump plug... let it drain into a drum... changed the oil filter... went off for a cuppa... came back and tipped in almost three gallons of fresh oil...

Without replacing the f***ing sump plug...

During my Navy days, I was an EW. Basically, we worked with a large radar detector to look for other ships without sending out our own signals. (Sneaky, hey?) So, anyhow, because the system I worked with was brand new, we used to send trouble reports to the manufacturer of the systems so they could start a knowledge base for troubleshooting. We read these over secure radio comms to SeaSys (the navy's clearinghouse for ordering and delivering systems). This made it real easy to send trouble reports like:

"Alpha-November slash Sierra-Lima-Quebec three two slash Victor two does not work when switch marked power is in the Oscar-Foxtrot-Foxtrot position."

Kind of reminds me of a few weeks ago, running around the house, looking for my glasses. Was so mad because I lost them.....................

    ....I was wearing them.

A little over a month ago....I got my 2nd gtx 570sc, sli time baby.... I shut down and installed it, powered up...2sec later its fan was running 100% ! Powered down, re-seat it, check cables ... powered up.... same thing happened... oh crap!! Un-installed it again, check psu, cables, bios ect.. This goes on for about an hour.... so now I'm at last try before RMAing. Open case back up rechecked everything closed case again. Just before hitting the power button it dawned on me.....Put switch on MB for the Pci lanes into ON position... yup, That worked!!

Those are all great examples ... just more proof that in this regard we're all pretty much the same and have the capacity to make these little honest mistakes. Some more things come to mind ... there was one time when I was backing out of the garage, and I was extremely distracted because I had my mind on a million things, and I completely forgot that my brother was parked behind me. No major damage, it was just a slow-moving bump ... but it's funny how the mind works in that way.

Slamming the locked car door close, and at that very instant realising that the keys were still in the ignition. I remember seeing my reflection in the car window, a comical grimace of surprise and horror.

In retrospect it was pretty hilarious
