The Windows 8 Beta blog revealed that a number of registry keys hinting at different Windows 8 versions can be found in the system registry. PCMag.com was able to confirm the blog's findings by using RegEdit on the one of the product entries.
I think 10 versions is a bit over the top now Microsoft.
completely makes sense to me, how many OS'es run on ARM processors? only mobile, so a new OS is needed, you can't just port, so make it beside the original and it's a win/win situation
To be fair, they did say this isn't the finalized lineup. It's also fairly obvious we aren't going to be concerned with anything with "pre-release" in the name, and most people won't likely be bothering with "starter" or "enterprise" editions either.the article said:
That leaves us with home basic/premium, pro/pro plus, and ultimate. Not all that different from Win7 really. I'm curious about the pro edition split, but that's about it.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Windows 8 get delayed for about 3 years as I'm perfectly happy and content with Windows 7.
Everyone is happy with Windows 7, and in my opinion Windows 8 is a step back. The Metro interface looks great on tablets, but is completely useless on desktop computers. Windows 8 will only be released in four versions, which is a bit better than the six of Windows 7.
