I can only smile at the OPs question; 26.4 kbps dial-up connection.
I can only grimace and empathize at the far from fond memories that dial-up evokes

yeah dial up sucks. but it's good when there is nothing else. the last place i lived, had no internet. i couldnt get internet due to the residence haveing the same adress as the the company i worked for (that sucked in itself). so what i did, was .. hack my cell phone (prepaid MoTo RAZR) to use as a modem, plug it in, and then piggyback back off a server in NYC. it was slow, but it worked for checking mail, and foruming. as long as i never deleted my temp files, pages wouldnt take that long to load, after a while.

the best part was, with the plan on my phone, i had free nights and weekends. so i could make a 36 hour 'call' @ 9:01pm on a friday, and it didnt cost a thing. idk if it was legal or not, but i lvl.^ my 1337 h4xor skilz

I can not remember when was the last time I used dial-up. Today I have a 50/10 Mbs VDSL line. We have two IPTV systems (German and Finnish TV), both using 10/1 Mbs leaving 30/8 Mbs for surfing and downloading. Had some problems to assign certain bandwidhts for IPTV boxes, but Netlimiter fixed all the problems. It's enough, I don't need any faster.

i remember when my friend discovered you can "dial out" on his computer.... we used it to order pizza, on bass phone (a phone tapped to a bass guitar, and hardwired to his pc, another one of my genius inventions)

in a way it made life more interesting. all the neat things that work with a dial tone. you'd be surprised what would work

Dial-up was all I could get in my neck of the 'woods'. I had it at 52kbs for 9 years ...

last year I was able to get Broadband, its top speed is about 256 Mbps, but I rarely see that
