I will never forget that day...I was in High School and Mom just came to pick me up...She got a call on her cell and they asked for me. It was the actual Supervisor again and she flew from Washington down to Marion. She went into the main office...looked at the wires and reversed them. I have never heard someone apologize so much for what transpired...and was also quite surprised when I heard her tell everyone in that office to go home and wait for their last check to come in the mail The crazier part was that she had been BY MY HOUSE to ask for me to come to the main office to get a straight answer and no one was there
    That's just too silly.

Just curious to see if anyone truly HATES dial-up like myself (being stuck on a 26.4kbps dial-up connection for a few).

Please post your reasons for hating/liking it. :)

My reason for hating it is simple, ITS SLOW!
I can't even get your speed....limited to 14.4kbps (crappy Qwest phone lines that they will not fix or upgrade). This has forced me to pay $80 per month for Wild Blue satellite and accept the so call "FAP" limits which are very punitive and nothing but a rip off considering the price.

1.5 Mbps downloads, 200 kbps (really only about 65 kbps) upload, 17 GB download limit every 30 days and 5 GB upload every 30 days. Exceed these limits and you drop to dial-up speed for about 3-4 days then watch your downloading or back to dial-up again for another 3-4 days, etc....but you keep paying full price even when you are at dial-up speeds. This means no streaming video, limited YouTube, very limited software downloads (Had a friend download Win7 due to size), and so on ad nauseam.

I probably wouldn't hate it so much if I hadn't had Comcast cable or Qwest DSL for the previous 14 years. There is nothing worse than going back.

Tried to get Qwest DSL to my home but they will only provide 1.5 Mbps line at a cost of $475 p/mo with a 12 month commitment.

I can see the Comcast dish farm 3/4 mile south of my house but they will not provide in my area at all. They just run it past on the telephone poles. Makes me crazy to see that cable and not be able to get it.

Wow its a shame that you are stuck with a company that limits you that much. May good fortune come to you (Being comcast expanding a tad bit into your area). :)

Sad but true. This is the state of so called broadband in rural area's across the US. Maybe one day if we get enough density in the sub division I live in we might get Comcast or Qwest to come in. You'd think they would want to get a jump on the competition and wire the area but I guess our business just doesn't interest them enough.

Maybe some of us down here should start our own company to provide service to this area and other under served area's, but of course as soon as someone does this you know they will wire the area and undercut the competition.

Yeah mate, that's usually how they work, they don't want it until someone else does.
